Significance of Tarpan During Pitru Paksha

Pitru Paksha is traditionally observed to remember departed ancestors through Tarpan, Shraddha and charity. Tarpan expresses gratitude and respect towards one’s ancestors.

  • Bathe in the morning and wear clean clothes.
  • Remember your ancestors in a quiet and clean place.
  • Clean water mixed with black sesame seeds may be offered.
  • Remember their names according to your family tradition.
  • After Tarpan, donate food or grains according to your capacity.

  • Remember your ancestors respectfully on Amavasya.
  • Offer food to a person in need.
  • Keep aside food for cows and other living beings.
